DocuSign pricing · updated October 2026

Is DocuSign free? Not for sending documents.

What each DocuSign plan really costs per document, why it adds up, and the cheapest way to get documents signed.

Is DocuSign free?

No: DocuSign is only free for signing documents someone sends you. To send documents you get a 30-day trial, then a paid plan starting at about $10/month (billed annually) for 5 envelopes a month. That works out to roughly $2.00 per document on the cheapest plan, and $3.00–$4.80 per document on the team plans.

DocuSign: US pricing as of October 2026, billed annually; prices vary by region and billing cycle. Cost per envelope assumes every included envelope is used.

SignForge’s free plan includes twice as many sends as DocuSign’s cheapest paid plan — 10 a month against 5, for $0 against $120 a year.

What do you get with a free DocuSign account?

You can always sign documents other people send you — that never costs the signer anything. A new account also starts a 30-day trial that lets you send documents of your own.

After the trial, a free account can still sign, but sending is very limited. To keep sending regularly you need a paid plan.

Why is DocuSign so expensive?

  • Per-user pricing. Every person who sends needs their own seat on Standard and Business Pro.
  • Envelope caps. Standard and Business Pro include 100 envelopes per user per year — about 8 a month.
  • Annual commitment. The advertised prices are for annual billing; month-to-month costs more (about $15, $45 and $65 a month).
  • Tiered features. Bulk send, payments and ID verification sit in higher tiers or are paid add-ons.
  • It’s built for the enterprise. Deep integrations, qualified signatures and a large ecosystem are real strengths — and part of what you pay for, whether you use them or not.

How much does DocuSign cost for one document?

If you send one to three documents a month, you’d pay about $120 a year for Personal and use maybe 20 envelopes. Your real cost is about $6.00 per document — unused envelopes don’t roll over.

The same 20 documents fit inside SignForge’s free plan, at $0.

Is DocuSign free for personal use, small business or nonprofits?

Personal use: no — after the trial, sending a lease, a bill of sale or a permission form means a paid plan. Occasional personal use fits in a free DocuSign alternative.

Small business: no — the team plans are priced per user with a yearly envelope cap. A small team sending a handful of contracts a month can start on SignForge for free and pay a flat $80/month for a team workspace later.

Nonprofits: check DocuSign directly for any nonprofit programme. SignForge has no nonprofit plan — its free plan simply costs $0 for every organisation.

The cheapest way to get documents signed

Upload a PDF, drop the signature fields where they go, and send it. Your signer opens the link and signs on any device, without an account, and you get the signed PDF with an audit trail and certificate. SignForge does that for 10 documents a month on the free plan.

Frequently asked questions

Does DocuSign have a free version?

Only for signing. Anyone can sign a document sent to them through DocuSign for free, but sending your own documents needs a paid plan after a 30-day trial. The cheapest, Personal, is about $10 a month billed annually for 5 envelopes a month (US pricing, October 2026).

How long is the DocuSign free trial, and what happens after?

The trial lasts 30 days. When it ends, you keep a free account that can still sign documents others send you, but sending is very limited until you choose a paid plan.

Is DocuSign free for signers?

Yes. The person signing never pays and doesn't need a paid account — the cost sits with whoever sends the document.

How much does DocuSign cost per month?

Billed annually in the US: Personal about $10/month, Standard about $25 per user/month, Business Pro about $40 per user/month. Month-to-month billing costs more — about $15, $45 and $65. Enhanced plans are priced by sales. Figures as of October 2026; prices vary by region.

Why is DocuSign so expensive?

Mostly because of how it's packaged: you pay per sender, the team plans cap envelopes at 100 per user per year, the advertised prices need an annual commitment, and features like bulk send or ID verification sit in higher tiers or cost extra. It's also built for large enterprises, with deep integrations and qualified signatures that small teams often don't need.

What is the cheapest alternative to DocuSign?

For the core job — send a PDF, get it signed, keep an audit trail — SignForge's free plan costs $0 for 10 documents a month, twice the sends of DocuSign's cheapest paid plan. Paid SignForge plans start at $15/month.
